Frequently
asked questions
How do I get to Nuquí?
Nuquí can only be reached by plane, from Medellín, Quibdó, Bogotá, Cali, Pereira, and Cartago. You'll need to fly into Reyes Murillo Airport in Nuquí (NQU). The airlines that fly there are Satena, ClicAir, and MoonFlights. We recommend buying your flights directly on the airlines' websites, rather than through third-party search engines. There are no roads in this part of the country — you can't get here by car or motorcycle.
Does the hotel offer transport from the airport?
Yes, there are two options for reaching the hotel: a public boat that runs once a day, or a private boat with more flexible timing. We coordinate both options for you.
Is there cell signal or WiFi?
We have 24-hour Starlink satellite WiFi. In the area there's also cell signal from Movistar (3G, quite unstable) and Claro (4G, more reliable).
Is it safe to travel to Nuquí?
Yes! It's considered one of the safest municipalities in Colombia for tourism. It's a peaceful area, and for the best experience we invite you to follow the hotel's recommendations.
Does the hotel have electricity 24 hours a day?
Yes! We have solar power that gives us light day and night.
What's included in the rates?
Our rates include accommodation, boat transfers, full meals throughout your stay (from lunch on arrival day through breakfast on departure day), an unlimited filtered water, coffee, and tea station, biodegradable amenities, and a welcome drink.
Do you accept card payments?
Yes. At the hotel we have a card reader for paying for activities and accommodation by debit or credit card. We also have stable WiFi for bank transfers. Keep in mind there are no ATMs in the area. Please note that there is a 5% markup for card payments.
What weather can I expect during my visit?
Chocó is one of the rainiest regions in the world — a humid tropical zone where rain is frequent and temperatures range between 24°C and 30°C. That said, the weather is fairly unpredictable day to day, and you may be surprised with sunny days. Keep in mind that January through April is the dry season, when most days are sunny and breezy.
Do I need any vaccines to travel to Nuquí?
It's not mandatory, but the government recommends the yellow fever vaccine and staying up to date on routine vaccinations.
Can babies come?
Babies up to 23 months old are welcome at no charge, as long as they sleep in the same bed as their parents. We ask guests traveling with babies to take used diapers and wet wipes back with them to the town of Nuquí, since the hotel and surrounding area don't have proper waste treatment for this kind of trash. We also ask guests to be considerate of other guests if the baby is crying a lot, and to do their best to soothe them quickly.
Can children come?
Children ages 2 to 9 are welcome and receive a 15% discount on the stay. That said, we ask parents to supervise them closely at all times, since most of our guests are adults and the spaces aren't designed for children. It's important that they're always under their parents' supervision, that they don't run or shout in the hallways or rooms, and that they be mindful of other guests' rest. The beach is a great space for kids, and the sea tends to be very calm, but children should not go into the water without an adult.
Can I bring my pet?
Yes, we can accommodate pets, but please keep in mind that we are not responsible for them. A few important points:
– We're located between the sea and the mangrove (swamp), so you need to watch closely that your pet doesn't wander off into these areas on its own. Likewise, the beach in front of us is 5 km long, and behind it is the jungle and a river.
– We're in a wild, natural setting, and there may be animals (scorpions, snakes) that, out of curiosity, could bother your pet and result in a bite or sting.
– There are no veterinary clinics anywhere in the Nuquí gulf. Bring whatever your pet might need in case of an emergency.
– Finally, owners are responsible for picking up their pet's waste (not in plastic bags — there's no waste collection or treatment in the area, so it must be in certified compostable bags) and for making sure their pet doesn't chase or disturb local wildlife, as there are birds, crabs, raccoons, and other animals in the area.
When is humpback whale season?
Whale season runs from the last week of June through the last week of October. Any date within these 4 months is good for seeing them. Keep in mind that we do responsible sightings and depend on weather conditions.
When is whale shark season?
Whale sharks arrive in late April and can be seen throughout the month of May. Keep in mind that we do responsible sightings and depend on weather conditions.
What other animals can I see during the year?
You may come across turtle hatchings throughout the year, though the strongest months for both egg-laying and hatchings are August through December.
Amphibian and reptile sightings are available year-round.
Bird watching is available year-round.
You may spot dolphins year-round while we're out on the water.
During your visit, if you're lucky, you might come across small mammals such as sloths, howler monkeys, pacas, collared peccaries, and others on jungle hikes.
Do you have restaurant service?
We have a restaurant exclusively for our guests. Since meals are included in our rates, we don't have a menu — every day we surprise you with different dishes at every meal.
I have dietary restrictions or I'm vegetarian/vegan.
Don't worry! Just let us know about any dietary needs in advance so we can be prepared for you.
